100th Anniversary of the Alice Salomon University

On October 15, 1908 Alice Salomon inaugurated the Soziale Frauenschule in the Pestallozzi-Fröbel-Haus (PFH) in Berlin-Schöneberg – today the place of the Alice-Salomon-Archives.

This year on October 23/24 the Alice-Salomon Hochschule, the successor of the Soziale Frauenschule, celebrated its 100th anniversary at its new location in Berlin-Hellersdorf as well as at its historical place in the Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus.

After that the Alice-Salomon-Award was given to Barbara Lochbihler as representative of Amnesty International Germany.

 

“Die Vertreibung des Sozialen” (Expulsion of the Social) from National Socialist Germany

This year‘s conference of the study-group “Frauen im Exil” (women in exile) in the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Exilforschung has the topic „Die Vertreibung des Sozialen“. The lectures will be published in October 2009.

Alice Salomon in exile

Prof. Dr. Joachim Wieler has donated his collection of materials and photos as well as his correspondence concerning Alice Salomon‘s biography during the period of Nazism and in exile to the Archives.

Notes taken of lectures at the Deutsche Akademie für soziale und pädagogische Frauenarbeit

Mrs Gertrud Neitzel has donated lecture notes of her mother, Gertrud Bernhard, who studied at the Deutsche Akademie für soziale und pädagogische Frauenarbeit in 1928/29, to the Alice Salomon Archive, inter alia notes taken of a sociology lecture by Carl Mennicke, director of the socio-political Seminar of the Deutsche Hochschule für Politik Berlin.

Community work and social education in Berlin-Kreuzberg in 1968

Manfred Rabatsch, social worker and lecturer at the FHSS Berlin (today: Alice Salomon University) from 1971 to 1978 has donated his collections to the Archive. An inventory has not yet been made, but the collection has been put in order regarding subject matters and can be used. The collection comprises materials concerning youth work and reform projects in the 1960s and 1970s.
